History…

I have grown up in Calgary, where I currently attend university.  However because of my father’s job I have been able to travel to many different countries and have learned so much from various cultures.

When did you start practicing yoga?

I began yoga when I was 14 at request of my best friend and have never stopped!

What style of yoga are you currently practicing?

Ashtanga

What brought you to this style?

When I begun it was “power yoga” and I enjoyed the challenge and needed the exercise.  I stuck with it because I found not only did I feel better about myself physically but mentally as well.

What is your yoga learning background? (i.e. what teacher trainings have you done, what teachers have you studied with)

I have studied with David Swenson, Beryl Bender Birch and in Mysore India with Pattabhi Jois and Saraswahti.  In Calgary I began my instruction under Cathy Shea and studied to be a yoga teacher with Ian Buchanan.

What is your teaching style? (i.e. are you gentle? Do you bring more philosophy into your classes? Are you more alignment focused or free flowing?)

I believe that the philosophy of yoga comes when you let go and just practice.  My classes are more a fast paced vinyasa flow so that people are able to challenge themselves and leave their preconceived notions of what their bodies can and cannot do behind.

What do you hope students take away from your classes?

I hope that when students leave my class they leave with more body awareness as well as a sense that they have really challenged themselves and tired something new, and sometimes scary.  I also hope that they leave feeling mentally and physically unwound.

What do you enjoy?

I love to do yoga obviously.  As for other interests I enjoy the performing arts and literature of all kinds and dream of being a movie star!
