Guidelines and Etiquette

Follow these simple guidelines:

- Be on time for class (come 5-10 minutes early to sign in)

- If you are pregnant or have serious health concerns (such as high blood pressure, recent surgery, or joint injury) be sure to inform your teacher BEFORE class.

- Please turn off cell phones and beepers

- Please avoid wearing perfumes and colognes

-Please leave your bags in the change rooms, please do not leave any jewelry or eyeglasses on the floor.

- Don't overdress, a t-shirt or tank top and shorts are recommended

- Don't eat before class (minimum 1 hour) if possible (you will feel your lunch in the twists...)

- Take the time to meet the person next to you, it improves the vibe in the room

- Check your competitive side at the door - there is nothing to "get" here  this is not an athletic competition; or beauty contest.  There are no prizes for best pose. ;)

- Enjoy your time with your breath and yourself

Q  What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga yoga is a moving style of yoga set to the rhythm of the of the breath. 

Power yoga another name for Ashtanga yoga in the west. 

A regular practice will create a strong body and calm and centered mind.

Q  Will I sweat?

Yes. 

The room is kept comfortably warm. 

Ashtanga is a vigorous practice; the movement and body control will work up quite a sweat.

Q  What do I bring?

Bring cool loose fitting clothing (shorts and t-shirt are best) - the room is warm. 

A towel if you tend to sweat.  A mat if you have one (we rent them so don't worry too much about that one). 

An open mind. 

Do not eat at least 1 hour before class. 

Q  Will I gain flexibility?

Yes, you might not ever be able to fit yourself into a box... but you will create a more flexible body and mind, and you don't have to be flexible to start!

Q  I'm used to registered classes, what does the unlimited mean?

Ashtanga yoga requires a regular practice. 

All scheduled classes are drop-in, which allows you to pop in for a class whenever it is convenient for you and as often as you like.

Q  I would like to bring my kids, is their a minimum age limit

The minimum age is 11 years old with an adult, or 13 years old unaccompanied.

Q What if a class is full (maximum class size is 40 students)

Ultimately the classes are all "first come - first serve", we will however offer you a free pass for your next class. 

If we start to see this happening, we will cap membership, and start  a membership waiting list.
